“[…]What the State cannot tolerate in any way, however, is that singularities form a community without affirming an identity, that humans co-belong without any representable condition of belonging (even in the form of a simple presupposition).” Giorgio Agamben, The Coming Community
Genova MaXter Program is an innovative temporary school addressed to young International artists. Initiated by the Contemporary Art Museum of Villa Croce, Genova MaXter Program focuses on the role of the museum institution in the development of critical thought. The program places its main emphasis on transversal experimentation within art practices, through a horizontal and open exchange format between artists tutors and artists who have recently completed their studies.
Genova MaXter Program 2014 developed as ten full-time days of collective work from November 21 to 30. During the Maxter, participants relate to two intensive workshops lead by tutors: A Constructed World and Matteo Rubbi. The working group includes Ilaria Bonacossa and Anna Daneri, curators of the project, with an external contribution by lecturer Gianni Pettena.
Entitled November Issue, this first edition of the Genova MaXter Program 2014, develops as a respinse to Giorgio Agamben’s statement, which represents the inspirational starting point for a common theoretical reflection on the relation between individualities and communities among a determined social context. Concepts of identity, agency and utopia have been performed, represented and discussed during the MaXter.
The participating artists, recommended by a selection of Italian and European universities, academies and fine art programs in response to a direct call from the Museum, will present the results of their collective work during Open Maxter 2014 -The Party on November 29, from 6 to 9pm.
